AASA’s Mission

1.Promote public awareness of the cultural and ethnic diversity of Asian Americans at Vanderbilt University and in the local community
2.Provide a forum for communication on issues of interest to the members and the local community
3.Recognize cultural diversity through the celebration of traditionally recognized international and nation events
4.Serve as a representative voice for Vanderbilt University’s Asian American community

What is AASA?

AASA is organized for the purpose of promoting and providing a cultural and political awareness of Asian and Asian American customs and diversity within the University and local community. This association also acts as a support group for those of Asian descent as well as those interested in participating in this Association’s activities, helping to achieve its principles and objectives.

History of AASA

AASA was established in 1986 by Susan Jung as a small support group for Asian American students on campus founded on the three pillars of culture, politics, and social networking. Since then AASA has evolved into an organization that has developed a presence on campus through activism and promotion of Asian American political issues while bridging the gap between Asian Americans and all peoples of the Vanderbilt community.
