CLOS DU VAL-WINERY

CLOS DU VAL-WINERY

A French-influenced property owned by Goelet Wine Estates has been established at 5330 Silverado Trail by Bernard Portet in 1972. As explorers, John Goelet and Portet chose the now famous Stags Leap District planting 150 acres of vines and later settling in Carneros with 180 acres (to plant chardonnay and pinot noir which enjoys the cool). These vines join the worldwide nexus between Languedoc (Domaine de Nizas), Australia (Taltarni) and Napa where Goelet Wine Estates have holdings. Portet’s Bordeaux beginnings have crafted the Ariadne 07, a semillon and sauvignon blanc blend, lees and barrel aged to make a fearsome dry white. Although Stags Leap is all about cabernet, the Carneros vineyards spawn Chardonnay and Reserve Chardonnay 07, Pinot Noir 07 and Reserve Pinot Noir 06. Further north a Napa Cabernet 06, Stag’s Leap Cabernet 05 and Reserve Cabernet 05 is made. Zinfandel 07 is an export wine.
