Barry Swenson: Milpitas: New South Main condo complex under review

The Milpitas Planning Commission next Wednesday will review the proposed conversion of a former business site near the Great Mall to a residential complex.

Sarah Fleming, a Milpitas senior planner, said Barry Swenson Builder is the project management firm working for property owner Mary Ly, of 88 Homes.

She added the applicant is proposing to combine the former Summer & Sons Electric Inc., which closed in 2016, at 808 S. Main St., and the adjacent vacant parcel to the south to make a 1.09-acre site. Summer & Sons moved to a new location in the city of San Jose.

“On that site they’re proposing 27 residential condos and an approximately 1,800-square-foot commercial condo space in a three-story building at South Main and Curtis Avenue,” Fleming said via email. “They’ll also be requesting a conditional use permit for modifications to two of the setback requirements and for a tandem parking configuration for one of the condo garages.”

If the commission recommends the condo project for City Council approval, it will likely be reviewed by November or early December, Fleming said.

The planning meeting will be held at 7 p.m. Oct. 11 at Milpitas City Hall’s Council Chambers, 455 E. Calaveras Blvd.
