The PCL family of companies is the largest general contracting organization in Canada and the fifth largest in the U.S. The organization is active in the commercial, institutional, multi-family residential, heavy industrial and civil construction sectors. PCL is a North-American based contractor with a U.S. corporate head office in Denver, Colorado and corporate head office in Edmonton, Alberta,Canada.
PCL is made up of a family of independent operating companies. The organization is privately owned by its employees.
History[edit]
PCL began operations in 1906, as E.E. Poole Contractors, founded by Ernest Poole of Stoughton, Saskatchewan. In 1913, Ernest Poole renamed the company to Poole Construction Company Limited moving the headquarters to Moose Jaw and then Regina, Saskatchewan in 1914.[1] In 1932 the company was moved to its current corporate headquarters in Edmonton, Alberta. In 1975 PCL opened its U.S. head office in Denver, Colorado. Ernest Poole’s sons, John and George, sold the company to their employees in 1977. In 1978, Poole Construction Company Limited became PCL Construction Limited.
