Ziebart was founded in 1959 by Kurt Ziebart, a German auto mechanic. Ziebart developed a process to stop corrosion and opened the first Ziebart store in Detroit, Michigan. Ziebart International Corporation is a company based in Troy, Michigan, and is the worldwide franchisor of the Ziebart brand of automotive aftermarket stores. Ziebart opened its first outlet in Detroit in 1959. Its first international location opened inWindsor, Ontario, Canada in 1962. As of 2009, there are approximately 400 locations in 40 countries worldwide.[3][4] On Monday, September 12, 2011, founder Kurt Ziebart, who inventing rustproofing for automobiles, died at his home in Williamsburg, Michigan, about 10 miles east of Traverse City in the northern Lower Peninsula.
