WORK PROCESS

Many years ago we went to a community meeting and heard a presentation by a Police Captain involved in Community Oriented Policing. He talked a lot about how the Department was working to involve the communities of San Diego into every aspect of decision making for the Department. He described a process that the Department had begun to integrate into its day-to-day operations across the board. That process has a simple acronym (SARA) and delivers outstanding returns in their work environment and, as it turns out, in ours too.

SARA is:

SCANNING
That’s taking a critical look at the needs and desires of clients. For the Police that’s residents of San Diego. For 619 that’s our targetmarket(s), business clients and production partners.

ANALYSIS
That means determining how to best meet those needs and desires given the capabilities and resources available for the job at hand. They’ve got creative guys with guns we’ve got creative guys withsuper-computers and loads of software.

RESPONSE
This is where the project goals are set and implemented. They may need to start a neighborhood watch program. We’ve got to convince folks to attend a special event, sign up for memberships or buy a particular product.

ASSESSMENT
At the end of each project we ask ourselves and our client if there was some way to better meet their goals; If we could have done anything better. We give a hard look at market data, previous campaigns and our entire work process and product. If there’s a better way to do what we do so well we’re going to find it.

SARA works. Sure it’s a little different, but it keeps us on our toes and helps us deliver absolutely the best product and client service available.
