A new affordable housing complex is gearing up for occupancy in Walnut Creek. Resources for Community Development will begin accepting applications for its Riviera Family Apartments in April with residents expected to move in starting in September. The nonprofit developer recently began construction on an affordable housing complex for veterans in Oakland.

The 58-unit affordable housing complex in Walnut Creek consists of two buildings that replaced several dilapidated houses at 1515 and 1738 Riviera Ave. The complex consists of eight studios, 24 one-bedroom, seven two-bedroom and 19 three-bedroom apartments. The project is designed for families and will have resident social service support and dedicated property management.

Shared amenities includ e community rooms with full kitchens, a children’s play area, laundry facilities and car and bike parking. The project also incorporates green design and construction to provide healthy indoor air quality and water and energy conservation.

The project is for residents with household incomes from 20% to 60% of the area median income. The Housing Authority of Contra Costa County will provide referrals for 18 units with project-specific vouchers.
