Summary

Have you ever wanted to visit your family but wished you could somehow avoid the hassle of traffic?  Wanted to visit your home or your pets while away?  The PadBot v.2 telepresence robot allows you to do those very things with extreme ease.  Drop in on your co-workers, family, friends, or pets instantly!

What do you need?  All you need to drive the PadBot around, as if you were there, is a tablet to attach to the robot and you, your friends or family, or coworkers can take control and have a virtual presence.  Simply download an app from the Google Play or Apple Store, and you can log in and “be on location” in a matter of seconds.  Driving cannot be much simpler.  Want to go forward?  Press the ‘up’ arrow on the screen.  Want to go right?  Press the ‘right’ button. No trouble at all.  Concerned about obstacles?  The PadBot has obstacle avoidance sensors (indicated by a red dot which indicates where the obstruction is).  Additionally, the PadBot has no trouble driving over cords and changes in flooring such as from carpet to tile and back again.

Upgraded Software and Features: A clear upgrade to its predecessor, the PadBot telepresence robot: Version 2 comes with a wide-angle lens, an external speaker, and Automatic Docking features.

Auto-Answer: The PadBot’s Auto-Answer feature (sometimes referred to as “Auto-activation”) allows you to activate the PadBot remotely; thereby eliminating the need for human intervention at the robot’s location. This is particularly useful if you are hoping to check-in on family members or pets without needing one of them to activate the robot.  The Auto-Answer feature eliminates complications caused by such things as a lack of familiarity with modern technology, limited eyesight, or simply not hearing a call.  Just login and find the person you want to see.

Auto-Charge: For the Auto-Charge feature, the PadBot utilizes a USB port which allows the tablet to be connected to the power source of the PadBot, thereby ensuring that your tablet will never lose power while the robot is in use.

Auto-Docking: One of the more exciting features is the Auto-Docking feature, whereby the PadBot will automatically return to its charger when the battery is low in order to charge itself.  Furthermore, with the click of a button you can send the PadBot immediately to its charger whenever you are done with your call.

How do I connect the tablet to the PadBot? Can I use a Laptop or Desktop Computer?  On a more technical level, the PadBot robot uses Apple and Google tablets and phones (sold separately) and connects via wireless Bluetooth 4.0. The particular tablets and phones that are supported are listed further below. The PadBot communicates with the remote user through WiFi and 4G connectivity; which is built-in.  The PadBot can be controlled only by smart phone (Android or Apple) or tablet at this time. However, Inbot Technology, the maker of the PadBot, plans to allow for Mac and Windows PC usage in the future, but have no set time in mind for this implementation.

How big is the PadBot v.2?  The PadBot weighs about 20 lbs. and stands at almost 3′ (90 cm), a comfortable height to engage with whether seated or standing.

What tablets are supported?  As mentioned earlier, the PadBot supports both Android and Apple devices.  Currently, the PadBot will support the following tablets and phones on iOS systems: iPad, iPad Air 2, iPad Air, iPad 4, iPad mini (1, 2, 3), iPhone 6S Plus, 6S, 6 Plus, 6, 5S, 5C, 5, 4S. The PadBot will support most Android Pads and Phones that support Bluetooth 4.0, Android 4.3 or above. However, the PadBot currently does not support the iPad 2, nor the Nexus 7 and Nexus 10.

Wish you didn’t need to buy a tablet?  Not interested in having to attach a tablet or deal with external speakers or lenses?  The PadBot P1 robot, which includ es a built-in monitor, a downward-facing camera, speaker, and charging dock, can be purchased (for an additional cost) simply by selecting it in the drop-down menu near the “Add to Cart” button on this page.  Alternatively, you can view the PadBot P1 page by clicking on the “Robots” tab and clicking on the image of the P1 while on the Robots page.  Feel free to contact us with any questions, or in the event you would like to receive a free PadBot demo!
