National Chiao Tung University and National Taiwan University have developed a robot they call Monica. Monica is a 60 kg robot capable of multitasking to act as a receptionist, tour guide, doctor or medical assistant. She can also perform airport orientations and other tasks.

Monica is equipped with voice recognition and image sensors, enabling her to recognize people before she lets them enter a building or premises and send emergency text messages to human security personnel if suspicious activity is identified. She can also answer questions and give directions. Monica performs additional functions at night, serving as a security and fire alarm.
