Hanlin Tang
Algorithms engineer, Intel AI Products Group, Intel

Hanlin Tang is an algorithms engineer in Intel’s AI Products group, where he builds deep learning models in computer vision and applies these models to various domains, ranging from satellite imagery to computational neuroscience. He also leads the group’s AI projects with defense and intelligence agencies. Hanlin joined Intel through its acquisition of deep learning startup Nervana Systems. Hanlin holds a PhD in biophysics from Harvard, where his work investigated recurrent neural networks in human brain. His research has appeared in scientific journals such as NeuronScientific Reports, and eLife.

Sessions

2:35pm–3:15pm Wednesday, September 20, 2017
Practitioner’s Guide to AI
Implementing AI
Location: Franciscan CD
Hanlin Tang (Intel)
Training deep learning networks is often seen as a dark art. Here we provide some lessons learned from building AI algorithms across multiple verticals, and discuss some tips and tricks for designing models. We also introduce the Intel Nervana deep learning stack that accelerates the iteration cycle for data scientists.
3:20pm–4:00pm Wednesday, September 20, 2017
Meet the Expert with Hanlin Tang (Intel)
Location: Table 1
Hanlin Tang (Intel)
Stop by to discuss designing deep learning solutions for specific problems with Hanlin. He will also discuss the challenges with moving deep learning algorithms from prototype to deployment, trends in computer vision research, moving beyond image classification, and deep learning algorithms for federal agencies.
