John Burroughs School, a college-preparatory day school in St. Louis, Missouri, strives for breadth and balance among academics, the arts, athletics and activities. This broad base of knowledge—in essence a liberal arts approach at the secondary level—provides the opportunity for students to explore possibilities and in the process discover their passions.

A core curriculum in humanities and STEM is balanced by opportunities in athletics and in the fine, practical, and performing arts. Students engage in more than four dozen clubs, from a high-mileage vehicle club to a literary magazine. Highly competitive athletic teams claimed three state championships during the 2016-17 school year.

The school puts a premium on global awareness and cultural competency, service and sustainability, and ethics.

BURROUGHS AT A GLANCE

Founded in 1923, Burroughs is a coeducational, college preparatory day school for grades 7-12. Faculty, parents and students share a commitment to a liberal arts education which strikes a balance of emphasis among academics, arts, athletics and activities. Graduates enter leading colleges throughout the country. Our 49-acre campus is located in St. Louis, Missouri.

Accreditation:  Burroughs, which was founded in 1923, is accredited by the Independent Schools Association of the Central States (ISACS).

Admissions:  Admission is based on school records, recommendations, entrance examination results and a personal interview. The primary admission level is grade seven, but applicants are considered for grades eight through twelve as openings permit.

Student Tuition Aid

Applicants for aid follow regular admission procedures and submit a completed Parents’ Financial Statement. Admissions decisions are made separately from decisions about tuition aid, which are made solely on the basis of family financial need.

Awards are in the form of grants, loans or a combination of both. This year, more than 22 percent of the student body receives aid; the average award is $20,784.
