Plastiq was born when Eliot Buchanan found out that his college tuition could not be paid using a credit card. Experiencing this frustration firsthand inspired him to create a solution that would enable anyone to use their card of choice for any payment, regardless of acceptance.

Soon after, Eliot founded 4ward Thinking, an online payment service that catered specifically to cardholders in the tuition space. 4ward Thinking’s rapid growth and success across several payment categories convinced Eliot’s former Harvard classmate Daniel Choi to take a leap of faith and join as co-founder of the company now known as Plastiq.
