Southern Methodist University is a private research university located near Dallas, TX. Founded in 1911 and affiliated with the United Methodist Church, SMU offers 106 undergraduate degrees in 96 fields through seven schools. Students can also choose from 150 study abroad programs in 50 countries, as well as research and service projects overseas. With more than four million volumes, SMU’s eight libraries house the largest private collection of research materials in the Southwest. The university is also home to the George W. Bush Presidential Center, which houses his presidential library and museum. The Willis M. Tate Distinguished Lecture Series brings renowned speakers to campus. The SMU Mustangs athletic teams compete in NCAA Division I and the school’s mascot is Peruna, a Shetland pony. Notable alumni include former First Lady Laura Bush and billionaire Indianapolis Colts owner James Irsay.
