Berkeley was listed as a “Public Ivy” in Richard Mull’s 1985 Public Ivies.[69] In the 2013–14 Times Higher Education assessment of the world’s greatest universities, Berkeley was ranked 8th.[70]Among world universities, Berkeley had the 2nd highest number of academic programs rated in the Top Ten in their field by QS.[71] In 2009 the Center for Measuring University Performance placed Berkeley 9th among national research universities.[72] The 2014 annual ranking by U.S. News & World Report ranked Berkeley first among public universities and tied for 20th among national universities in the U.S.[73] In 2014 Kiplinger ranked Berkeley 9th out of the top 100 best-value public colleges and universities in the nation, and 2nd in California.[74] The Princeton Review ranks Berkeley as a “college with a conscience”[75] and the 5th best value in public colleges.[76] For “Best Undergraduate Teaching,” UC Berkeley was ranked 7th in the nation, tied with Duke University.
