Welcome to Canvas! We’re a Portola Valley-based venture capital firm focused on making early-stage investments in technology companies. Canvas launched in the summer of 2013 after raising its inaugural, $175M fund. In September of 2016, Canvas raised its second fund of $300M.

Our partners know each other well, having worked and invested together for years. Initially managed by Gary Little, Rebecca Lynn and Gary Morgenthaler, the Canvas partnership has since expanded, with long-time NEA partner Paul Hsiao joining the investment team.

The team continues to serve on the boards and work with their non-Canvas portfolio investments, which includ e companies like Lending Club, Evernote, MuleSoft, Doximity, Practice Fusion, ADARA and NuoDB—to name a few. Canvas portfolio companies includ e 11 Honoré, Casetext, CrowdFlower, Eden, Everwise, Fluxx, Folloze, FutureAdvisor (acquired by BlackRock, Inc.), HealthLoop, Hustle, Kinetica, Luminar Technologies, Platform9, Roofstock, Totango, Transfix, Vida Health, Viewics, and Zola.

With its thesis-based approach to investing, Canvas is already establishing itself as the go-to VC for fintech, digital health, marketplaces, enterprise SaaS, big data, and more.

We’re a small, close-knit team that moves fast and cares deeply about helping your business succeed. We like to have fun, too, but we know the problems you’re trying to solve keep you up at night and that sleep is a luxury and sometimes happens in, on, under or around a desk.

That’s why we work hard to be there when you need us and have earned a reputation for putting our shoulders to the grindstone alongside founders. We have a lot of experience with helping companies recruit talent, scale operations and secure follow-on investment when they need it. And, startups tell us we add a lot of marketing and PR firepower to their arsenal. Like founders, our ultimate goal is to help build enduring companies that create real, lasting value.

What’s more, CEOs tell us they value a sense of community, which is why we’ve created a series of networking forums that take place throughout the year. These includ e our “Annual CEO Dinner,” which allow CEOs to mingle, get to know each other and hang out with some of the most influential technology companies in the world. We also hold more intimate mixers with functional heads, including Marketing Mixers, Recruiting Mixers and Product Mixers. Hey, we love to mix.

We’re here to help you turn your Big Idea into reality, but not by micromanaging or presenting you with a novelty-sized check and then walking away, but by becoming trusted, long-term partners who have your back during hockey stick growth curves and pivots alike.
