Nothing soothes our end-of-summer blues like a new zip code ranking in sunny California. This time we’ve zoomed in on San Francisco’s priciest zip codes for homebuyers. So, we analyzed all residential transactions closed from January 1 st  2017 all the way expected the end of August. As expected, the most expensive zips are in well-established neighborhoods like Marina, SoMa or the Financial District, but this does not mean that there were not a few surprises along the way.

# 1. 94105 is the priciest zip code in San Francisco. Covering the South Beach and Yerba Buena neighborhoods, the zip code fetched a median price of $ 1,209 per square foot through August 2017. This particular area has definitely earned the first spot, boasting the only zip code with a price tag over $ 1,200 per square foot.

# 2. Coming up next is San Francisco’s Downtown ( 94108 ), which saw a 5.4% increase year-over-year in prices. The zip code ranks second on our list, achieving a median price of $ 1,189 per square foot.

# 3. San Francisco’s Marina ( 94123 ) completes the top three. Here, the median price per square foot went down 3.2% year-over-year, resting only slightly below the second-place contender with a median price of $ 1,188 per square foot .

# 4. The most surprising zip code in our ranking is San Francisco’s Financial District ( 94104 ). The significant growth is substantially credited to the 19 renovated condos at the Ritz-Carlton Residence Club. The units went on the market at the end of December 2016, fetching asking prices ranging from $ 2.3 to $ 2.7 million, according to Curbed.

# 5. Encompassing San Francisco’s Fifth District, 94114 takes the fifth spot on our list. The Castro neighborhood zip code had an increase in prices of nearly 5% year-over-year, and fetched a median price of $ 1,157 per square foot.

Methodology: To determine the priciest zip codes in San Francisco, all residential transactions closed between the 1st of January and 31st of August 2017 were looked at. All package deals were excluded.

Zip codes 94130 and 94129 were excluded from our ranking because no residential transactions were recorded there within the above-mentioned timeframe.
