- About Hakkasan
- Hakkasan was founded in 2001 and has become one of the most successful modern restaurant concepts in London. Chef Tong Chee Hwee has led the Hakkasan kitchen since its inception, arriving directly from the Summer Pavilion, the famed Chinese restaurant at the Ritz Carlton in Singapore. Tong’s dedication to the art of Chinese cuisine has seen him receive the Carlton Restaurant Award for best London chef in 2005. The celebrated interior designer Christian Liaigre was behind the unique design of Hakkasan. Much courted by the fashion crowd, Christian has been responsible for the private homes of Karl Lagerfeld, Calvin Klein, Valentino’s Paris headquarters as well as New York’s Mercer Hotel. Hakkasan was awarded ‘Oriental Restaurant of the Year’ at the Carlton London Restaurant Awards in 2003 and 2004: the only restaurant to have won the same award twice. In 2003 Hakkasan received a Michelin star, which it has retained to this day.
Following in Hakkasan Hanway Place’s success, Hakkasan Mayfair launched in 2010 and was awarded a Michelin star less than a year later. Yauatcha, the contemporary Chinese tea house in Soho, London, opened in 2004 and received a Michelin star within a year of its launch. Also part of the Hakkasan group is Sake no Hana, offering modern Japanese dining on St James’s Street, Mayfair. The group’s most recent launch is HKK, launched in December 2012. Inspired by the long-standing Chinese banqueting tradition, HKK offers an ever-evolving unparalleled tasting menu for both lunch and dinner. The menu at HKK embodies Chef Tong’s talent for presenting Cantonese dishes with a modern flair, telling the story of China through reviving old recipes.
In April 2009 Hakkasan opened in Miami and then further openings included Abu Dhabi and London in 2010, Mumbai and Dubai in 2011, New York and San Francisco in 2012, Doha and Las Vegas in 2013. The group will be opening more sites in 2013 including Beverly Hills, India and Shanghai.
