Last year, we told you about Domain — Equity Residential’s luxury apartment community in North San Jose.

The complex at 1 Vista Montana is now complete, joining a number of projects in lease-up mode in the submarket that’s awash with new units.

But Domain is a little different. It is one of the largest modular-construction residential projects in the region. The 444 units were trucked in from Idaho before being set in place by cranes.

If successful, the project could spur more developers to consider going the pre-fab route. Benefits include speed to market, which is crucial in a competitive leasing environment.

Representatives for Equity, which built the project with money partner Northwestern Mutual, shared a time-lapse video of the construction, which we think is pretty cool. You can also take a mini-tour of the units, which might be pre-fab but are also decidedly high-end, by clicking on the image.

What’s it gonna set you back? One bedrooms start at $2,205; two bedrooms from $2,575 and three bedrooms from $3,420. The project itself cost Equity a total of $155 million.
