Macerich’s Broadway Plaza in Walnut Creek Moves Toward Completion of Redevelopment

WALNUT CREEK, Calif. – Broadway Plaza, part of the Macerich (NYSE:MAC) portfolio of one-of-a-kind retail properties in top markets, is nearing completion on Phase I of the major renovation that retains the property’s scale and distinctive appeal, while adding new retail, new parking, new finishes and refreshed outdoor amenities.

In total, more than 51 new retailers will call market-leading Broadway Plaza home when the renovation is largely complete at the end of the summer. These include 29 retailers opening now through the holidays, as well as 22 that have already opened in 2015/2016 to date. (See timing for all store openings below.)

To celebrate the project’s completion, the community is invited to save the date for a special “Party in the Plaza” on September 1. More details will be announced as Broadway Plaza nears this official celebration date.

“For 65 years, Broadway Plaza has been the favorite shopping and dining destination for our own community and the East Bay region,” said Shelly Dress, Senior Property Manager, Broadway Plaza. “Whether it’s your first time or your hundredth time shopping with us, we invite you to come explore the exciting new brands and new experiences at Broadway Plaza. We are so proud that we have creatively made space for so many wonderful retailers and restaurants our community wants – all while heightening the outdoor appeal and walkability that have always set Broadway Plaza apart.”

About the Expansion

Broadway Plaza is transforming to create a space that is in line with the appealing scale of downtown Walnut Creek by demolishing and replacing about 80,000 square feet of existing retail space as well as two older, inefficient parking structures. The new parking structure now offers four levels of parking on the Macy’s side, and three levels of parking on the Nordstrom side.

Broadway Plaza is anchored by Nordstrom, Neiman Marcus and Macy’s, and the property’s Macy’s last year completed its own 57,000 square-foot expansion. The redesigned 247,000 square-foot store opened last November and features a new men’s department, which moved from a separate location at Broadway Plaza. The larger store also debuted with its renovated handbag floor; a new cosmetics department; new fine jewelry and fashion jewelry departments; new fine watch and fashion watch departments; new restrooms and more.

The convenience and experience of guests remain a high priority at Broadway Plaza throughout the property’s transformation. Valet Parking is available seven days a week and Text Concierge enables guests to enjoy a top-quality shopping experience throughout the construction process. Guests can simply text 925-948-8826 to ask questions and quickly receive personalized responses.
