Three housing projects in El Cerrito gained final design approvals and will add over 250 housing units along San Pablo Avenue. The largest of the three, a 223-unit Mayfair apartment project on an old El Cerrito del Norte BART parking lot, will includ e 67 affordable units, the East Bay Times reports. These latest projects are a part of a development boom within the city.
Two smaller projects developed by Branagh Construction will bring a total of 35 condos to El Cerrito’s main thoroughfare. One project will be at San Pablo and Lincoln avenues and another will be at San Pablo and Eureka avenues.
Holliday Development and Bridge Housing are co-developing Mayfair, which would become El Cerrito’s largest apartment complex under construction along San Pablo Avenue. The project is the first to use Tier IV exception under the San Pablo Avenue Specific Plan, which allows additional height in exchange for public benefits.
In addition to the affordable housing units, the six-story Mayfair will provide a public plaza and a public art project. It also will includ e ground-floor retail. Lowney Architecture designed this project. Other companies involved includ e Miller Co., Canon Constructors, Rhoades Planning Group and Miller Company Landscape Architects.
These three projects join a 128-unit complex near the El Cerrito Plaza BART station developed by Ravello and the 63-unit Hana Gardens senior housing project being built next to City Hall.
