This week the Business Journal published a list of the top 25 most active venture capital firms in Silicon Valley and the Bay Area, ranking firms on the number of deals they completed in 2010.

Information for the list was obtained from The MoneyTree Report from PricewaterhouseCoopers and National Venture Capital Association with data provided by Thomson Reuters.

Nine new firms appear on the list that weren’t ranked last year, and the top 25 ranges from firms who did 77 deals to firms who did 21. Silicon Valley accounted for $9.1 billion venture capital dollars invested in 2010 and made up 40 percent of the total $23.3 billion invested across the U.S.
