Lyft
Lyft is a privately held American transportation network company (TNC) based in San Francisco, CA. Launched in June 2012 by Logan Green and John Zimmer, the company’s mobile-phone application facilitates peer-to-peer ridesharing by connecting passengers who need a ride with drivers who have a car.[1][2][3] Lyft now operates in over 200 U.S. cities, including San Francisco, Los Angeles, and New York City, and is valued at $2.5 billion.
As of January 2016, Lyft had raised more than $2 billion from investors General Motors ($500M), Alibaba, Andreessen Horowitz, Coatue Management, Didi Kuaidi, fbFund, Floodgate, Fontinalis Group, Fortress, Founders Fund, GSV Capital, Icahn Enterprises, Janus Capital Management, K9 Ventures, Mayfield Fund, Prince Alwaleed’s Kingdom Holdings Company, Rakuten, Tencent, and Third Point Ventures.
Logan Green
Logan Green is the co-founder and CEO of Lyft, a peer-to-peer ride sharing company, which he founded with John Zimmer in 2012. [1] Lyft operates in more than 60 cities in the U.S. with more than 10 million shared rides taken to date.
Lyft grew out of Zimride, a ride share company previously founded by Green and Zimmer in 2007.
Early life
Green attended New Roads High School in Santa Monica, California.[4] Green graduated from UCSB in 2006 with a B.A. in Business Economics.[4] While a student, Green created The Green Initiative Fund, served as a board member for the Isla Vista Recreation and Park District, and was the youngest director for the Santa Barbara Metropolitan Transit District.[4][5] From August 2007 to February 2008, Green was the Sustainability Director at UCSB.[6] In 2007, alongside John Zimmer, Green founded Zimride: a ridesharing platform that coordinated carpools, especially across college campuses.
