Profile

Bryn Mawr is a private women’s liberal arts college founded in 1885 situated only 11 miles away from Philadelphia, PA. and despite its small size, it has numerous academic opportunities for its students. They can do independent research, take interdisciplinary courses and have access to 37 majors, 38 minors and 4 concentrations to create their own academic program. There is also the option to take some classes at Haverford College, Swarthmore Colleges and the University of Pennsylvania. Bryn Mawr has several long-standing traditions, including Parade Night, where the whole school gathers at Taylor Hall to greet the incoming freshmen with bubbles, flowers and candy as well as Lantern Night, where students pass on the light of knowledge to the new freshmen class. On the first Sunday after the end of finals, the campus gathers for May Day, an annual tradition in which students dress in all-white to eat strawberries and cream and perform traditional dances. The event culminates with a screening of “The Philadelphia Story,” starring Bryn Mawr’s most famous alum, Katharine Hepburn.
