Recognized as the oldest college in Wisconsin, Beloit was founded in 1846 as a small, private liberal arts college located just 20 miles from Madison. Students can choose among 50 undergraduate areas to study or to create their own major. Beloit also has an idea incubator/studio/art gallery known as the Center for Entrepreneurship in Liberal Education (CELEB), two century-old museums and 23 ancient Indian mounds. Classes have an average of 15 students; one third of classes having 10 or fewer students. Beloit is a member of NCAA Division III and has 17 varsity men and women teams as well as an extensive intramural and club sports. The university also has a frisbee golf course that spans almost entirely within the grounds of the college.
