Profile

Loyola Marymount University in Los Angeles, CA was established when Loyola University and Marymount College merged in 1973. The private urban university is Jesuit-affiliated and offers 57 undergraduate majors as well as 51 minors. The most popular fields of study are business, visual and performing arts, and communications. The school’s core curriculum, known as “Core,” is a four-year course program that first teaches students to think critically, and then shows them how to apply those skills in their fields of study, as well as in other disciplines. The Faculty Fellows and Faculty-in-Residence programs organize trips and activities that give students the opportunity to develop relationships with their professors. The school is also big on sustainability – its campus is home to five LEED-certified buildings as well as two rooftop solar arrays. Since 2006, faculty have held 19 Fulbright scholarships, one Nobel Prize, one Pulitzer Prize, and two Princeton Fellowships. In the same timeframe, 27 students have been awarded Fulbright grants. The Lions compete in NCAA Divsion I athletics.
