Profile

Located in Holland, MI, Hope College was officially chartered in 1866 and is affiliated with the Reformed Church in America. More than 1,000 students come to pray and worship at voluntary chapel service three times a week. Hope offers 91 majors, minors, and pre-professional programs, and is known as one of the top liberal arts colleges for producing research publications. Each spring, students present their research findings at the Celebration of Undergraduate Research and Performance; in 2016, 408 students presented 274 projects. It is also the first private, liberal arts college to have earned national accreditation in art, dance, music and theater. Also, Hope houses its own Pelletron particle accelerator in the Hope Ion Beam Analysis Laboratory. Students have the option to study at off-campus locations in New York City, Chicago and Philadelphia, in addition to many overseas locations. Each year, students look forward to “The Pull,” a tug-of-war competition between the freshman and sophomore classes that originated in 1898. Each class is coached by the grade two years above, resulting in a persistent rivalry between odd and even class years. The Flying Dutch compete at the NCAA Division III level.
