Profile

Founded in 1881, Marquette University became the first Catholic university in the world to accept women in 1909. Located in Milwaukee, WI, the school offers 87 majors and 81 minors, as well as pre-professional degree programs in law, medicine and dentistry. The most popular areas of study are business, communications and engineering. The Raynor Memorial Library, located on campus, houses a number of rare books and documents, including Senator Joseph McCarthy’s papers and some of J.R.R. Tolkien’s original manuscripts. Also on campus is the Haggerty Museum of Art, which provides educational resources for students. Marquette’s Reserve Officer Training Corps (ROTC) program is nationally recognized and has branches for the Navy, Army, Marines and Air Force. The school’s Educational Opportunity Program provides resources for first-generation college students, and the Health Careers Opportunity Program does the same for underrepresented students in health professions. Marquette participates in the NCAA Division I Big East Conference.
