Profile

Located just a few miles away from the beach in Southern California, the University of California Irvine has been a top public research institution since its founding in 1965. The university offers more than 80 degree programs to undergraduates in 16 different schools, including the nation’s first school of social ecology. In addition to its academic programs, UCI created a new collaborative workspace, The Cove, to further innovation. Among other discoveries made on its campus, chemists found a way to unboil an egg, transforming solidified proteins to their original state. The school recently launched The Blum Center for Poverty Alleviation, which helps fight economic inequality through education, research and innovation. UCI athletics compete in NCAA Division I athletics and will play in the Big West Conference beginning in 2018. Alumni of the school have won six gold Olympic medals and 14 Paralympic gold medals.
