Profile

A Jesuit school based in Fairfield, CT, Fairfield University was established in 1942 and graduated its first class of women in 1972. The undergraduate school offers 44 majors and 17 interdisciplinary minors, and the graduate school boasts 41 advanced degrees. As of this fall, first semester students will take seminars in groups such as the commuter group, the creative group, and the Magis Scholars group. Fairfield is home to a chapter of the academic honor society Phi Beta Kappa, and more than 60 graduating seniors have won Fulbright Awards. The school maintains a 15,000-square-foot media center, which has a 32-foot television production satellite uplink truck. More than 450 students participate in intercollegiate, varsity athletics. Fairfield’s sports teams, the Stags, compete in NCAA Division I athletics. The men’s and women’s basketball teams play in the 10,000-seat state-of-the-art Arena at Harbor Yard.
