California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo is a is a large, public suburban university located halfway between Los Angeles and San Francisco. While undergraduate students can choose from 65 bachelor’s degrees, Cal Poly’s highly ranked engineering programs are the most popular. Cal Poly believes in a “Learn by Doing” environment where it encourages the application of theory to practice. There are more than 80 state-of-the-art laboratories and of its nearly 325 student clubs and organizations, 50 are specifically geared towards the engineering college. Cal Poly’s Upward Bound program provides support to local low-income, first-generation college-bound high school students. Greek life is lively with 35 fraternities and sororities on campus. The Cal Poly Mustangs have 21 varsity sports teams participating in NCAA Division I athletics.
