Profile

Originally founded as an all-male military school in 1889, Clemson is now a large public tech-focused research university based in the classic Southern college town of Clemson, SC. Divided into seven colleges with more than 80 majors, Clemson’s largest enrollment is in engineering and science, followed by business and behavioral sciences. Accordingly, the university maintains several entrepreneurial programs and it is well-known for its living-learning communities. Food science students make and sell ice cream on campus, a tradition since the 1920s. Almost 70% of students are from South Carolina and a quarter of students join Greek life — students in Greek organizations boast higher GPA’s than non-Greek students. The Tigers compete in NCAA Division I athletics. Notable alumni include South Carolina Gov. Nikki Haley and dozens of NFL, NBA and MLB players.
