James Madison University was originally a women’s college, then a teacher’s college, and today is a large public comprehensive university in Harrisonburg, VA, offering 76 bachelor’s degrees. Some of the most popular fields of study are health professions, business/marketing and communications. James Madison University has a strong track record of preparing students for the working world: within six months of graduation, 81% of JMU graduates are employed or pursuing a higher degree. The university has nearly doubled in size during the past 20 years and continues to grow. The sprawling 785-acre campus contains 138 buildings, 34 of which are residence halls. Campus life is active with 31 fraternities and sororities, as well as some 350 clubs and organizations such as the 3-D Modeling Club and the JMU Ghost Hunters. Students have access to indoor and outdoor resources like a climbing wall, cycling, and whitewater kayaking thanks to the University Recreation Adventure. James Madison University varsity teams compete in the NCAA Division I, and are cheered on by its mascot, Duke Dog.
