Profile

Founded in 1851, Florida State University has grown from a small, several-acre campus to a large expanse of more than 1,600 acres. FSU is comprised of 17 colleges, all of which offer more than 340 undergraduate, graduate, doctoral, professional and specialist degree programs. The university is known for its arts programs, including dance, film, music, and theater, as well as strong programs in political science, human sciences, business and law. FSU is home to Florida’s only national laboratory, the National High Magnetic Field Laboratory, which features some of the country’s most powerful magnets. It is also the birthplace of the anticancer drug Taxol. Students can venture into the wilderness surrounding campus through pre-scheduled or customized trips organized by the school. Notable alums include Sara Blakely, founder of Spanx and one of the world’s youngest female self-made billionaires. The FSU Seminoles are Division I and compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
