Profile

Founded in 1847, the University of Iowa is the state’s flagship public research institution located in Iowa City. Iowa offers over 200 majors, minors and certificate programs with recognized programs in social psychology, healthcare and law. Roughly 27% of Iowa undergraduates are involved in research and students have access to eight main and branch libraries on campus, as well as over 200,000 rare books. The University of Iowa Dance Marathon is an annual event that raises money to provide financial and emotional support for pediatric cancer patients and their families at University of Iowa Hospitals and Clinics; students raised over $2.4 million at the last 24-hour dance, making it one of the top student fundraisers in the nation. Iowa has 24 teams that compete in NCAA Division I athletics and students can cheer on the teams from their official section called the Hawk’s Nest.
