Calvin College, established in 1876, is a private Christian liberal arts school in Grand Rapids, MI, named for reformist John Calvin. The college is committed to faith-based learning with a core curriculum that includes classes in developing a Christian mind and a major capstone course. Of the 100 majors, the most popular programs are business, health professions and education. With a 94% full-time student body, 14% are U.S. students of color and 12% are internationals from 56 countries. Calvin’s sprawling campus features a 100-acre Ecosystem Preserve filled with forest, wetlands and meadows that showcase the West Michigan environment. Green life extends to initiatives such as a community garden, the Kill-A-Watt Competition and Freecycle Day. The Calvin Knights’ 10 men’s and 11 women’s teams participate in NCAA Division III athletics.
