Profile

Yeshiva University, established in 1886, offers an undergraduate curriculum that combines secular knowledge in the liberal arts and sciences with Judaic studies. It has four campuses in New York City and one in Israel. Yeshiva contains three undergraduate schools: Yeshiva College, Stern College for Women and Sy Syms School of Business. In the fall of 2015, Yeshiva sent almost 600 students to Israel as part of a year-long Israel Program.Graduates of Yeshiva have a 93% acceptance rate to medical school, well above the national average of 60%. Guest lecturers on campus have included billionaires Michael Bloomberg, Joseph Lieberman, and former chief rabbi of the United Hebrew Congregations of the Commonwealth Jonathan Sacks. The athletic teams, nicknamed the Maccabees, compete in NCAA Division III athletics. Notable alumni include best-selling authors Aaron Klein and Chaim Potok. In June 2015, Yeshiva announced a partnership with Rabbi Isaac Elchanan Theological Seminary that would allow students to earn a bachelor’s degree and rabbinic ordination in six years.
