Profile

Originally founded in 1856 as an all-male public research university, Auburn University admitted women in 1892 and became Alabama’s first co-ed university. As such, it was designed to help working class students obtain a liberal, practical education. Auburn’s 12 colleges reflect this mission and include the College of Agriculture, the School of Forestry and Wildlife Sciences, and the College of Architecture, Design & Construction. As a land-grant university, Auburn also serves all Alabamians through research and outreach programs. Among its research facilities, Auburn boasts 3-D Body Scanning Technology and an Aerodynamics Laboratory. Since the 1950s, Auburn students have embraced an annual “Hey Day” tradition during which they greet every person they pass with a friendly, “hey!” Auburn competes in Division I NCAA athletics.
